Use this technique for non-tropical Bluebottles, Crown-of-Thorns Starfish, Sea Anemones, Sea Urchins and Stinging Fish including Stingrays (but note the special instructions for Stingray wounds).

What is It? – This technique is when you remove any spines or tentacles and bathe the affected area in hot but not scalding water.
Why is it Done?– It is done to relieve pain.
How is it Done?
Step 1: Remove any spines or tentacles with tweezers.
Note: Do not remove barbs from stingray wounds, as this must be done in hospital only.

Step 2: Bathe the wound with hot water (that is no hotter than 45 degrees Centigrade) to relieve pain.
The other unaffected limb should be comfortable in the water – test it on yourself first to avoid causing a burn.

Step 3: Seek medical help as soon as possible.
